Totara Times – Term 2, Issue 7

Welcome back everyone.  We hope you had a lovely break and are feeling refreshed and energized!  Term 2 and we are humming!  Our team is running like a well-oiled machine now and we are some seriously top learners.
We have another busy term ahead of us with many exciting learning opportunities!

Writing
We hope you enjoyed our boys and girls newspapers.  We worked really hard on them and were very proud to bring them home and show you.  This term we are focussing on narratives so don’t be surprised if we are coming up with all sorts of stories at home.  We will be starting with character descriptions of people we know very well.  Very, very well!

Maths
In maths we are focussing on multiplication and division.  We will be developing our number knowledge around these concepts as well as learning new strategies to solve problems involving both operations.

Reading
We are continuing to learn new reading strategies to gain deeper understanding of what we read. In particular we will be focusing on being reading detectives by locating and explaining inferences within different texts. A small group of students in Michaela's reading class will be taking part in Chapter Chat for the first 6 weeks of this term. They will be reading Charlotte's Web and taking part in a twitter discussion every Friday at 10am. Feel free to follow us on twitter @totara_team to see our awesome discussions!

Art
We have heaps of awesome art on display from Term 1 that we did with the amazing art guru Trish!  If you haven’t already, please come and check it out in our learning space.  People pay big money for quality art like this!

Inquiry
Our focus for inquiry this term is ‘Create’ and that suits us great because boy oh boy are we creative!
Trish will continue to inspire us with inspirational art!  Michaela will blow our minds when teaching us to do animation in technology and Sven is going to take PE and we will be creating our own games to teach our classmates.

Student Led Workshops
We have now finished our passion projects and this term we are now going to teach our classmates the skills and knowledge we have learnt.  We have been given different time slots to present on Fridays and it is our responsibility to know which weeks we need to be organised for.  The timetable will be posted on the blog when it is finalised.

Homework
Homework will now be given to us online on our own OneNote notebooks.  We can access this from school and home and the best part is we can never forget our homework books….we just need to remember to do it.  Action English books will continue to come home on Monday and come back to school on Fridays.
Technology
If your child brings an iPad to school could you please download the Stop Motion app. This is a free app that we will be using in our technology inquiry to create a narrative. Thanks!
